The pop-up exhibition Charles Barker Howdill’s Blazing Balkans was supported by a small 2018 grant from the Leeds Galleries and Museums/University of Leeds Cultural Institute Cross Disciplinary Innovation Fund.
We are deeply grateful to the late Madge Howdill, for generously donating many of these images to Leeds Museums and Galleries in 1993. We should also like to thank Ian B. Howdill and the Howdill family for kindly donating a further batch of colour slides in 2018, as well as making available to us additional slides from their private collection.
Many thanks to Leeds Museums and Galleries, and especially to curators Antonia Lovelace, Kitty Ross and Adam Jaffer for their generous assistance with this project. Thanks also to: Colin Cook and Liane Durkin (www.restoreoldphotos.co.uk), John Crossen, Colin Dews, Martin Hamilton, Freda Mathews, Peter Smith, Stephanie Winters, and Caroline Wise.
Charles B. Howdill’s original slide captions appear in italics.
Copyright to all images is held either by Leeds Galleries and Museums, or by Ian B. Howdill.
